Wildlife Warriors Worldwide (WWW)

In 2002, Steve and Terri founded what is now Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide Ltd (WWW) as a way to join forces with others who shared their goals. It is an organization dedicated to the protection of endangered and threatened wildlife.

Steve’s earnings allowed him to start the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation (later renamed Wildlife Warriors Worldwide). Steve found that the biggest benefit of stardom was its allowing him to promote conservation in greater ways than ever before. In addition to the countless media outlets – from talk shows to magazines to his own multiple programs- through which he could now spread his message, there was the income. Dollar signs did not translate into vacation homes or luxury cars. His focus was instead, on conservation projects.

To jump-start the effort, he bought thousands of acres of land in Australia, the United States and other parts of the world because protecting animals begins with protecting their natural habitats.

Although WWW is an independent organization today, Australia Zoo remains its main sponsor. To uphold its missions, the Queensland-based group is involved with multiple wildlife rescue and protection efforts at any given time.

According to its Web site, the group’s objectives are as follows:

  • to protect and enhance the natural environment;
  • to provide information and education ot hte public and raise awareness of wildlife issues;
  • to undertake biological research’
  • to research, recommend, and act in protection of threatened or endangered species; and
  • to enter into cooperative arrangements with like-minded organizations.
