Who Is He?

Phillip “David” Phil Radford was born on 2 January 1976. Although he is only 38 years old, he has great contributions to the world’s environment. Phil Radford is an American environmental and clean energy leader whose area of focus is on clean energy, climate change and corporate social responsibility. He is best known for being the youngest Executive Director of Greenpeace USA.

Radford has a degree in Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) from Washington University in St. Louis in 1998 and a certificate in nonprofit management from Georgetown University.

Besides that, Radford has earned the Oak Park and River Forest Tradition of Excellence Award (2011) in recognition of Oak Park and River Forest High School alumni who have made outstanding contributions to society through their personal and professional pursuits. His work during his stint at Greenpeace USA to change over 100 companies’ environmental practices was also called “activism at its best” by The New York Times.

Being the son of two educators and the grandson of a botanist, Radford may have been positively influenced by family. His acts of environmental activism started at a young age. In high school, he volunteered to campaign against a major waste-disposal company in building an incinerator on the west side of Chicago’s. In college, he directed drive and canvass workplaces for the Fund for Public Interest Research for customers containing the Human Rights Campaign, PIRGIM, and Ohio PIRG and operated part-time throughout educational institution for the Sierra Club. This then shows us how our every little actions are still significant and that we may even have a larger positive impact on our environment in future.
