Influence

As a popular A-list Hollywood star, Leonardo DiCaprio has had, and continues to, make use of his position and powerful influence to speak about environmental issues and to urge people to support environmental causes.

The newspaper The Guardian lists DiCaprio as one of the 50 People Who Could Save The Planet. This was decided by a Guardian panel, and they called him “one of the world’s most high-profile campaigners”.

Carter Roberts, President and CEO of WWF, said of DiCaprio, “[He] defies expectations in leveraging his voice and influence to restore tigers and their habitat in one of the most hopeful places on Earth. His foundation is all about delivering real results for conservation on the ground and empowering local communities; nowhere is that more evident than in Nepal. The numbers speak for themselves and we are grateful for our partnership.”

Mr. Ban Ki-moon, upon appointing DiCaprio as UN Messenger for Peace, also described him as being a “credible voice in the environmental movement”, and that he has a “considerable platform to amplify its message”.
