Bali

Bali as one of the most popular tourist destination, face the biggest threats in sea turtle conservation. Most beaches in Bali are invaded and reconstructed for tourist purposes, and this affects so much on how sea turtle habitat in the island.

In the recent years, there have been establishment of several non-profit organization by locals and internationals. For example, Kuta Beach Bali Sea Turtle Program which aims to protect sea turtle eggs and increase its hatchling eggs. This program has successfully rescued more than 50,000 turtles eggs in the year 2012 and 2013.

International volunteer organization also establish conservation in Bali, for example International Volunteer. This organization organizes activities in a smaller island named Nusa Penida. The activities includes helping local teams to feed and clean turtles, taking care of turtles caused by victims of fishing activities, and also educating visitors about turtles.

Another well-known sea turtle conservation organization in Bali is Bali Sea Turtle Society (BSTS). This organization includes sea turtle nest protection, human education and campaign sea turtle protection. Volunteer in BSTS records the number of sea turtle coming to lay eggs, moving eggs to a safer beach to hatch, and also helps authority to release confiscated turtles that are used for trading. They also go around giving brochures and visit schools and give education to community regarding sea turtle.
