Planting Trees

“It’s the little things citizens do. That’s what will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees.” – Professor Wangari Maathai
(BrainyQuote, 2014)

The Green Belt Movement has planted more than 51 million trees in Kenya since 1977.

By helping the local communities to plant trees near the river, several problems can be solved such as having more fertile and compact soil that would retain ground water as well as greener pastures for growing crops.

In addition, the Green Belt Movement provides training for women, teaching them what kind of crops to grow on their soil and how to manage them efficiently for the growth of good food crops in accordance to the weather. This will increase the chances of their family having food to eat all year round.
