Since the main purpose of conserving our nature habitat was to conserve our biodiversity, the master plan for the conservation of Singapore’s habitat was the actually Singapore’s master plan for biodiversity- “Conserving Our Biodiversity” (developed and implemented by the National Parks Board (NParks)). Biodiversity and natural habitat are closely associated with one another.

“Conserving Our Biodiversity”, was established in 2009 and aims to promote biodiversity conservation. However, it is not an easy task for Singapore as we have limited land but high demand for it for different purposes. This master plan ” intends to establish both policy frameworks and specific measures to ensure better planning and co-ordination in the sustainable use, management and conservation of our biodiversity” (National Parks Board, 2009)

NParks recognizes that biodiversity conservation is only possible through combined efforts from different sector and has thus worked with them/ taken them into consideration before the master plan was established. The master plan also satisfied our international commitment with the Convention on Biological Diversity- an international agreement created by the United Nations, that Singapore has pledged.

This master plan contained the following 5 main strategies. Each of its details can be found in the subsequent tab.
