China’s Jinhai Pulp Facility: Innovation in Water Conservation and Discharge.

The article by Water World, talks about the improved conditions from environmentally-friendly water handling at China’s Jinhai Pulp Facility. In a nutshell, the pulp facility was built in 2003, and located in the Hainan Providence in Sourthern China, this facility produces 1mil tonnes of pulp and 900,000 tonnes of fine paper yearly, with water as one of the essential ingredients throughout the whole process of production of the paper and pulp.

Some astonishing results of the conservation efforts are simply self-explanatory.
One of the many water conserving technologies employed at the facility includes an advanced compact press, which lowers water use by 7,1 tonnes per tonne of pulp, and it has accounted for the highest amount of water savings since the facility was established, conserving an amazing amount of 23,430 tonnes of water daily and 8.2 million tonnes yearly.

Reduce, reuse and recycling water has proven effective for the facility, achieving water savings of 3,500 cubic metre of water daily, while an additional method of reusing backwashing water for washing lime stones saves 2,300 cubic metre of water daily.

Other methods of reusing water saved 1260 cubic metres of water daily, and these are but just some of the water-savvy methods employed by the facility.

The technical processes of the facility may confuse you, so here’s a video about the pulp and paper industry, and you might understand the article better, including their water-savvy methods.

The Jinhai pulp facility has taken caution in their methods of handling water, including the traditional ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. Their efforts have not gone to waste and it is an example of how different industrial facilities can attempt to save water and help alleviate the situation in China.
