China has the world’s largest population, and has been one of the world’s fastest growing economics. Its high productivity, coupled with low labour costs and good infrastructure has made it a global leader in manufacturing. However, the Chinese economy highly energy-intensive and inefficient, reportedly being the largest energy consumer in 2010. China’s economic growth and population boom has damaged its environment, and economic growth in China started to slow down in the early 2010s.
