CORAL TRIANGLE INITIATIVE (CTI)
CI is a partner of the CTI, working with governments, communities and the other stakeholders to help achieve sustainable change. The CTI is a “multilateral partnership of 6 countries working together to sustain extraordinary marine and coastal resources by addressing crucial issues such as food security, climate change and marine biodiversity.” At the leader’s summit in 2009, these governments have agreed to adopt a 10 year CTI Regional Plan of Action. This aims to strengthen the management of seascapes, promote an ecosystem approach to fisheries management, establish and improve effective management of marine protected areas, improve coastal community resilience to climate change and protect threatened species. Therefore, the CI works as a partner to help in the collaboration and execution in the different programs and policies across the years.

IGNITING NATIONAL SUPPORT FOR RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
One of the initiative CI carried out on a regional level is to help protect marine and coastal resources in Timor-Leste. In 2012 and 2013, CI led the design and trial of a collaborative management model with the National Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, community leaders and fishermen in 3 coastal communities of the Nino Konis Santana National Park. The CI involved the government in the project by showcasing the successes and running of workshops to highlight ways of moving towards sustainable management. In January 2014, the government of Timor-Leste approved of the allocation of funds to the fisheries sector budget.
