China-Country-Program-Map1

China contains over 50% of the world’s potential habitat for snow leopards, approximately 1,100,000 km2 and is also home to 2 to 5000 snow leopards, the largest number in the world.

Since 2004, Snow Leopard Trust has been working in China and has partnered up with organisations such as Panthera and Shan Shui Conservation Center, a Chinese Non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Beijing in order to expand conservation efforts in the Three Rivers area of China. Other than the endangered snow leopards, this region is also home to many other endangered species including the Tibetan antelope and wild ass.

In addition to partnerships with organisations, Snow Leopard Trust fully funds research done by Dr. Li Juan, the first woman at Peking University to be awarded with a PhD in snow leopard research.

Threats to the snow leopards in this region include:

  • Illegal Poaching
  • Habitat Loss
  • Retaliatory Killings

Conservation Programs:

  • Research Camera Studies
  • Conservation Education Programs
