Trial of Chinese eBook platforms- HyRead eBook & iRead eBook

NTU Libraries is currently conducting a trial of HyRead eBook & iRead eBook (華藝電子書) Chinese eBook platforms.

We would like to invite you to try out these two platforms and provide us with your feedback by using the online feedback form before 15 Feb 2017. Your valuable feedback is important and would help us to decide whether we should subscribe to these platforms.

HyRead eBook 电子书平台收录了大部分台湾出版的中文书籍,内容范围包含了人文及社会科学、语言及文学、宗教及心理学、科学技术、经济及金融、电脑及资讯科技、语言学习、医药与艺术设计等等。HyRead eBook 电子书平台提供全文检索,同时也支持iSO或Android 系统操作的智能手机与电子阅读器等设备的线上或下载阅读。

HyRead eBook is a platform for Chinese eBooks published in Taiwan. The collection covers a wide variety of subjects across the humanities & social sciences, language & literature, religion & psychology, science & technology, economics and finance, computer & IT, language learning, medicine, and art & design, etc. HyRead eBook platform provides full text searching and it is compatible with mobile devices using iSO or Android system for online or offline reading.

iRead eBook电子书平台提供台湾出版的中文书籍,内容范围包含了人文及社会科学、自然科学、考试用书、语言、文学与小说、艺术、商业管理、政府出版品等。此外,iRead eBook 也收录了中国大陆与新加坡等地出版的电子书。iRead ebook也提供引用格式的导出,支持全文检索、移动阅读以及打印。

iRead eBook platform provides access to Chinese ebooks mainly published in Taiwan. The collection covers subjects including Humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, textbooks, linguistics, literature and fiction, arts, business management & finance and Government publications, etc. In addition, iRead eBook also contains some ebooks published in China and Singapore. iRead eBook platform supports citation exporting for EndNote and RefWorks, full text searching, reading on the mobile devices and printing.

NEW streaming video collection — Explore Academic Video Online for Teaching

The Library has a new subscription to the Academic Video Online (AVON) collection from Alexander Street Press.

  • AVON comprises various types of video material with curricular relevance, in particular: documentaries, interviews, performances, news programs, field recordings, commercials, and raw footage.
  • Content is carefully selected by expert editors, and covers a wide range of subject areas, mainly from the humanities, arts and social sciences.

Sharing the videos with students is very easy! You just need to provide them with a link. And there are several useful features of the video platform such as transcripts, creating playlists and clips.

Attached PDF (Introduction to Academic Video Online for Course Instructors) is a short introduction with more details.

Coverage: 18th to the mid-20th century

A digital archive which offers primary and secondary material for South Asia research.

The materials are interdisciplinary and mostly in the English language with about 30 percent of the documents in vernacular languages.

Documents are interdisciplinary, covering colonial and early post-colonial India in fields such as culture & society, industry & economy, science, technology & medicine, urban planning & administration, politics & law.

 

ProQuest Historical Newspapers: South China Morning Post

Coverage: 1903 to 1995

Provides digitised access to the South China Morning Post (an English language newspaper published in Hong Kong) which reports on Hong Kong, China, and other countries in Asia.

The entire newspaper since its launch in 1903 can be searched. Searchable contents include news articles, advertisements, editorials, cartoons, and photographs.

The database allows cross-searching with other ProQuest Historical Newspapers.

 

 

ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The Times of India

The Times of India provides digitised access to the world’s most widely circulated English daily newspaper which was founded in 1838 to serve British residents of West India.

Content is multidisciplinary (e.g. colonialism, post-colonialism, British and world history, class and gender issues, international relations, religion, international economics, terrorism, culture, sports, Indian film industry)

It allows cross-searching with other ProQuest Historical Newspapers.

中文电子新资源:《大成老旧刊全文数据库》启用

从晚清到民国时期的百年,是中国近代化的转型时期,其时学术兴盛,思想活跃,百家争鸣,而记录这一切的正是当时出版的书籍和刊物,这些文献全面地反映了这一历史时期的真实面目,是研究近代中国的重要参考资料。

《大成老旧刊全文数据库》(Dacheng Old Journal Full-text Database)收藏自1833年至1949年前出版的期刊约7,500种,14万多期。全库分为哲学、文史、地理、政治、经济、法学、艺术、语言文字、文教体育、自然科学、医药卫生、农业科学、环境科学、综合学科等21个门类,其中许多内容与我校的研究方向有关,如海外华人研究、电影研究、女性研究、交通运输、中外贸易、科技史等。这一新数据库的启用,加上本馆已经订购的《晚清期刊全文数据库》(Late Qing Periodical Full-text Database,1833-1911),将为我校研究人员提供近代中国百年的完整的第一手历史材料。

该数据库界面简洁,使用方便,可以通过关键词、刊名、篇名或作者检索,繁、简字检索均可;也可以通过类目、刊名、期数、篇名浏览。全文内容以pdf图片形式呈现,可以下载、保存和打印。

好消息:《中国反右运动数据库(1957-)》 & 《中国大跃进——大饥荒数据库 (1958-1964)》入藏!

最近图书馆新增两个中文数据库:

• 中国反右运动数据库(1957-) The Chinese Anti-Rightist Campaign Database (1957-)

本数据库由香港中文大学出版,主要收集了包括官方档案、指示、公报、领袖讲话、重要报刊社论、右派言论文章等第一手文字资料一万多篇,具体分为如下七大部分:
1)和反右运动有关的官方文件;
2)毛泽东关于反右运动的讲话、指示和文章;
3)中共党政领导有关反右运动的讲话和指示;
4)有关反右运动的重要报刊社论文章;
5)重要的右派言论和文章;
6)反右运动前后的鸣放言论、报刊社论和重要文章;
7)反右档案:处理结论、检查交代和平反通知。

数据库可用中英文作“主题”,“日期”,“作者”,“标题”,“地点”,“关键字”查阅。

• 中国大跃进——大饥荒数据库 (1958-1964) The Chinese Great Leap Forward- Great Famine Database

本数据库收集了近三千万字的第一手中文资料,一半以上的文献作了重新校勘;内文包括标有出处的官方档、指示、公报、内部报告、领袖和首长讲话、重要报刊社论等七千多篇;其中50%为中共各级档案馆的内部档案。仅当年各地有关大饥荒的绝密调查报告、记录就近三千余篇;此外,本数据库也提供了大跃进和大饥荒前后左右的众多的其他政治运动的材料,如“统购统销”、 “农业合作化”、“肃反运动”、“红专大辩论”、“双反运动”、“向党交心运动”,“拔白旗、插红旗”等等。

数据库可用中英文作“主题”,“日期”,“作者”,“标题”,和“关键字”查阅。

Based on some professors’ requests, NTU Libraries has arranged a trial for a Chinese database entitled Dacheng Old Journal Full-text Database 大成老旧刊数据库. This database contains more than 7,000 kinds of journals published before Year 1949, with a total of 140,000 volumes, covering a wide range of subjects. I know some of you have been expecting these kinds of old journals resources for quite a while, now it is time to hear from you. Your feedback will be highly appreciated.

If you have heard or visited our early textbook special collection at Wang Gungwu library, you might be very impressed by these precious resources. Now we present this online bibliography for your easy access to this collection at any time anywhere as you like!

It records a total of more than 1200 titles of textbooks and related study and teaching materials that were used in Mainland China and Chinese schools in Southeast Asian countries during the twentieth century.

You can search by title, author, or subject. Alternatively, you can browse the whole collection by author, year, content level, subject heading, keyword, and place of publication.
