Professor Wang Gungwu, Director of East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore, is a well-known historian and author of many works on China and Chinese overseas. He was born in 1930 in Surabaya, and grew up in Ipoh, Malaya. He received his B.A. (Hons) and M.A. degrees from the University of Malaya in Malaysia, and his Ph.D. at the University of London (1957). He taught in Malaya and Canberra, Australia and spent 10 years in Hong Kong as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong.
王赓武教授是著名的历史学家,现任新加坡国立大学东亚研究所所长。他出版了许多关于中国和海外华人研究的重要专著及论文集。王教授1930年出生于印度尼西亚的泗水,在马来亚怡保长大。1953年在马来亚大学获得学士学位,两年后获得硕士学位,之后赴英国深造并于1957年在伦敦大学取得博士学位。
