Embedit Anyone?

Posted by Phoebe under E-resource Tips

I read about embedit.in at Library Stuff and thought I’ll try it out with a pdf document.

I have already uploaded the pdf booklist for the AWARE’s Beauty Redefined exhibition. However, it was presented as a clickable link for download in a previous post.

This is a good test subject. Let’s see if embedding the document is better than providing a link.

With the embedding, the document can be viewed within the post. It is cool because viewers do not necessarily need to have the reader or an equivalent software in order to view the content.

There is a zoom feature and a print function. The saving function is a bit tricky. One must choose to print to file and select the appropriate output format.

Embedit’s interface is very clean. 2 options available:

  1. Upload files
  2. Embed a url

I did a screen capture of the homepage and embedded it.

This post took me so little time (except testing the saving option).

I like it!

Which are the top search engines in Asia? You will be surprised to know that it’s not Google in some countries such as South Korea, Japan or China. You can find out which are the top search engines in those countries in this Economist article.

How to read the other issues of The Economist online:

1) Go to E-journals page.
2) Click on A-Z list.
3) Run a search on the journal title, i.e. The Economist.
4) Click on the database links to access the e-journal.
5) Search for a specific article by looking for year, volume, issue and page numbers.

Outstanding PI reports which have been approved by internship organizations for release are now available in DR-NTU (Digital Repository@NTU).

Currently there are only a handful but more will be added progressively. These are to serve as samples of good PI reports written, rather than to be used for choosing internship companies. For the latter, the PI coordinators will be a better source of information.

To access DR-NTU:

  1. Go to Library Homepage (http://www.ntu.edu.sg/library)
  2. Click on DR-NTU (Digital Repository@NTU)
  3. Authenticate with your NTU network username and password if prompted

To search for PI reports by WKWSCI students, do the following:

  1. Search for WKWSCI Student Reports
  2. Use the words “industrial attachment” in quotes, otherwise you’ll get irrelevant results.

Note: Although it is known as PI (Professional Internship) in WKWSCI, IA (Industrial Attachment) is the general term used in DR-NTU, hence you need to search by this term.
