This is the 3rd year that the final year students of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information are holding Filament – a showcase of the final year’s audio and visual projects.
Filament 2009 consists of 11 projects to be shown over 2 days at the Singapore Art Museum.
Hop over to the official blog for more juicy information.
CONGRATULATIONS! Class of 2009!
Librarian’s note: All final year projects this year will be digitally archived in NTU Library’s Digital Repository DR-NTU (restricted). This includes the reports and all the creative works. Yes, even the video and audio files.

The AWARE Beauty Redefined Exhibition has been extended to 24 April 2009. If you haven’t seen the photos and read the stories behind them, do drop by the Asian Communication Resource Centre to see them.
The resource list of books on display has also been compiled. Download a copy here
In September 2008, AWARE asked budding photographers to challenge society’s limited definition of beauty by showcasing creative, artistic pictures of people in their lives.
According to AWARE, 1 in 2 Singaporean teens believes she or he is too fat. 9 in 10 wants to change the way they look. It is time to confront the so-called beauty myth.
AWARE Beauty Redefined Photo Exhibition features 12 winning entries to the Beauty Redefined Photo Competition.
The Photo Exhibition has been on tour since then and it is coming to NTU.
Look out for it at the Asian Communication Resource Centre from 26 March 2009 to 7 April 2009
A selection of library books related to body image, gender communication and gender studies will also be on display. A pdf copy of the list is here.
The Library is moving to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to manage the circulation of library books. This entails converting all our books to become RFID-compliant.
The conversion exercise will take place at ACRC from

The renovation of ACRC and other NTU libraries was featured in Nanyang Chronicle recently.
The Crowbar Awards 2008 Exhibition at ACRC has been extended for one more week till 9 Feb 2009.
Do come down and catch it if you haven’t!
To find out more about the Crowbar Awards, please check the official website.
You may have noticed the rows of A2 posters inside ACRC when you walked past.
It was Professor Tim Clark that brought the winning entries of the Crowbar Awards 2008 to ACRC. He hoped to inspire his students to participate by showcasing past year winners.
I’m sure WKWSCI students can come up with brilliant and creative ideas too. Looking forward to next year’s Crowbar.
In the meantime, check out the competition at ACRC. They are only here for 2 weeks.

A few professors in school has been telling me that there should be greater allowance in the way we can use materials for teaching purposes.
I tend to err on caution.
The Code for Best Practices in Fair Use for Media Literacy Education should help ease the “tension” between the professors and me. *wink*
Time for me to hit the books.
All libraries are closed on the following days:
Closed at 1pm on Christmas Eve (24 Dec 2008)
Closed at 11am on New Year’s Eve (31 Dec 2008) for a staff function

A stark contrast to its booming IT hub of Bengaluru (Bangalore), the rural side of Karnataka epitomizes one of the epic dramas of our age: the struggle for subsistence that continues in parallel with the creation of vast wealth in Asia’s economic revolution.

The GO-FAR 2008 team will uncover this less-reported side of India’s transformation.
