April 2008 – 24-hour Book Drop Signage

A set of new book drop signage was installed on the wall outside the Library to lead users from the entrance of the Library to the newly added 24-hour book drop.



March 2008 – Chinese Library

With the relocation of the HSS Library to its new location at S4-B3c, the existing Library space at S3.2-B5 was renamed as Chinese Library (中文图书馆).

Chinese language books that are already in this Library space are now spread out, occupying all the shelves that were formerly shared with the English language humanities and social science collection.



March 2008 – New Shelf End-Panels

New shelf end-panels were added to the shelves located at the far end of the Library. Previously, only those shelves nearer the entrance were installed with end-panels. These new end-panels with similar design as existing ones help to provide a more consistent and neater look for the Library.



March 2008 – Converting Shelving Area to Study Area

With the moving of HSS English collections to the new HSS Library and the re-arrangement of the Chinese collections, an area that was previously used for shelving is converted to additional reading space.

After the conversion, the seating capacity of the Chinese Library increased to 108 seats.

March 2008 – Installation of Spotlights

Two rows of spotlights were installed on the ceiling near to the glass display cabinet to enhance the ambience lighting of the display area, which plays an important role during an exhibition or event.



February 2008 – 24-hour New Book Drop

A new 24-hour book drop has been added to better facilitate users who wants to return books when the Library is closed. It is located near the entrance of the library.



January 2008 – Glass Display Cabinet

Custom-designed glass display cabinets were installed in the previous current periodicals area. The cabinets will be used to house exhibits and display books from the Chinese Library collection.



December 2007 – Moving of Current Periodical Shelves

In view of the addition of new display cabinets in the Library, the current periodical shelves were shifted to the wall space next to the loan counter.

December 2007 – Moving of Counter and Expansion of Staff Office

The Loan & Enquiry Counter at the Chinese Library was shifted outwards, nearer the main entrance to provide better visibility of the service desk as well as to create more staff space behind the counter. Additional staff cubicles were created during this minor renovation.
