You Need Financial Stats Quick?
Apr 3rd, 2008 | By Balbindar Dhaliwal | Category: Accounting, Banking & FinanceYour FYP group needs financial data to do the project properly and hand in a robust paper. But you do not know where you can get the data you need, or if the data you are looking for even exists. You can get them easily from the library.
Bloomberg (2 stations on level 2, Lee Wee Nam Library, NS3)
The database is constructed for financial analysts and has a vast amount of financial data; some of it is historical data ranging over several decades. It can be difficult to find information if you are not familiar with its proprietary search codes; however you should be able to eventually find data from its bowels using the HELP function.
Downloading is easy and here you can get more information.
Datastream (2 stations on level 2, Lee Wee Nam Library (NS3))
You can find time series data that are updated weekly for economics, securities and financial topics. You can also get company accounts from when the company was listed. It can be a little hard to search for data as there are thousands of combinations of series and data variables available but downloading is easy. Get more information on Datastream. Please consult with the Library staff for the data you’re looking for.
LexisNexis.com
It provides current American company financial data with SEC filings and reports including disclosure reports and analysts reports. It is easy to search but not so easy to download the data. Get more information.
Wharton Research Data Services
This database contains time series data useful for finance, accounting, banking and economics topics. You can get company and banks’ financial data from Compustat, security prices and returns from CRSP, analysts estimates from IBES, China stock data from CSMAR, listed company financial information in OSIRIS, Singaporean stock data from the 1990s in PACAP, asset-pricing models in Fama-French portfolios, corporate governance data in RiskMetrics.
It is relatively easy to choose your variables. You can download data into Excel and SAS formats; this can take a while if you are downloading a large amount of data. Please note that NTU does not subscribe to all the datasets. Get more information.
Share what you found out when you used these databases.
All NTU Alumni can access four databases remotely using their alumni email account.
