Relocation of Media Resource Library

Relocation of Media Resource Library
Media Resource Library will cease its operations and close on 30 Dec 2008.
Media resource services will resume at the Business Library (formerly known as Library 2, Blk N2, Level B2) with effect from 31 Dec 2008. Wef 31 Dec 2008, please check with Business Library counter staff if you wish to request for audiovisual materials.

开学期间,你是否想在中文图书馆打印一份课件,却发现电脑桌前座无虚席?考试期间,你是否想在中文图书馆找个座位阅读,却发现阅览室已经爆满?如果是这样,你不必懊恼,近期中文图书馆采取了下列举措,大力缓解了找座位难、上机难的矛盾:

 

 1小时电脑系统:中文图书馆共有16台电脑。9月中旬我们在前排4台电脑上安装了1小时电脑系统 (如图1),以方便那些只需短期使用电脑的读者。使用此1小时电脑须先在柜台登记,每次登陆,限用1小时;时限到后,如果没有别的读者登记在先,你可以再次登记使用。其他12台电脑仍可无时限使用。此一服务自推行以来,既提高了前4台电脑的使用频率,也保障了那些需要较长时间使用电脑的读者的需要,受到同学们的热烈欢迎。

 

 

增设阅读座位:图书馆特在电脑区添设3张阅读桌子和12张椅子,以提供更多的阅读座位

增设打印管理机:本馆打印复印服务中心的打印管理机也由1台增设为2台,以加快打印速度,减少高峰时期同学们排队等待的时间。这2台管理机被移至靠墙处 (如图2), 以减少图书馆入口处的臃滞现象,进一步改善了图书馆的环境。 

 
  

 

馆内新书展示:我们在图书馆入口处设立新书展示区,每天都有更新。我们学科馆员尽量挑选那些学科重点书、畅销书以及那些品质外观俱佳的好书以飨读者。这些色彩斑斓的新书深深吸引了读者的眼光,每天有不少读者在此留连,遇到心仪之书,他们可以当即在柜台借阅,方便快捷。另外,我们还设立了一个电子书簿,以闪动播出一些重点新书的电子化封面(如图3)。这些措施能让读者在第一时间触摸、感受到新书,加大了图书的借阅量。

 

博客新书推介:为了及时向那些不能亲自来图书馆的读者介绍新书,我们在图书馆博客上开辟了“新书快照”和“读读好书”两栏目。“新书快照”每星期一期,将重点新书封面分类排列,并注明索书号以便读者查询;“读读好书”栏目由学科馆员撰写,或推介一些重点图书,或与读者分享读书心得,旨在倡导一种“爱读书、读好书”的风气。我们还定期将这些栏目电邮通知中文系师生,让读者足不出户便能了解更多新书详情。

    What is document delivery?
     Document delivery is a service provided by NTU Library to obtain copies of documents such as journal articles, conference papers, standards, patents, theses, etc which are not available in our collection. For example, if you are looking for a journal article that will aid in your research or project work, you can make a request for it via our document delivery service and we will scour our suppliers and other libraries to find you that article.  
    Do I have to pay?
    Document delivery is a fee-based service but the Library will subsidize the procurement of documents requested by eligible staff and students subject to request quotas, availability of allocated Library funds and the requester’s access to research funds. The Library will only subsidize requests for students and staff who have no access to research/teaching materials funds and must declare that they are using the requested documents for their research, teaching or project work.  
    How long do I have to wait?
    The turnaround time is usually around 5-14 days, depending on which supplier/library has the document in its holdings, the method of delivery it uses and the type of document it is. If you need the document urgently, you may like to request for the fast service but the charges might be more.  
    How do I make a request?
    For students, you will need to download and fill in the request form here. For staff, you will have to request it via Stafflink under Resource Request> Library Services> Document Procurement/Photocopy Request. For more information, please click Here.
