YOUR OYSTER

Drop by HSS Library to view ” YOUR OYSTER” by Dr. John Cheung.

Shakespeare probably first coined the idiom “The world is your oyster”.  In his play ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ (1600), he took it to mean ‘If you have a lot of money, you can have anything you want’.

That was Shakespeare’s world 400 years ago.  In our age of new global economy, it is more apt to apply this idiom to highly talented young people that are mobile and in demand around the world.

Talents are in demand everywhere.   But what constitutes talent?  And do you have what it takes?

This artwork is about the other attitudes and attributes we have to cultivate.

Secondly, we have to value the importance of networks in this globalised world.  Networks make the world small.

One type of network is the Internet which can supply you with virtually limitless information and connections.

The other type of network is that of your local and international classmates, especially those who has become fellow travellers in your global journey to excel.   You may only notice and value the importance of this network after you graduate because your future career, business or any endeavour can be very much enhanced by this network.

Do you like to have your photo potrait on this globe, placed at or near the country where you come from .

You can email it to us at hsslibrary@ntu.edu.sg

Thank you!
