Remember that sinking feeling you get when you have to pay X dollars to get the full text of that very important article that you need for your term report? Publications like The Economist are freely available on the web, but you usually need to pay for back issues.

Full text back issues on Factiva

Factiva – one of the Library’s subscribed databases –has full text, archived articles of magazines like The Economist, local newspapers such as The Straits Times, Business Times, 联合早报  as well as news and business information from 10,000 sources. 

Learn English!

Learners of the English language can now use Factiva to listen to English articles online. Simply click on the “listen to article” link on the top of the page.

The British National Corpus (BNC) XML edition contains samples of written and spoken language that is meant to represent a wide cross-section of current British English,both spoken and written. BNC contains 100 million words and contains written and spoken corpora.
