It provides users with a variety of information resources that covers not only the basic sciences , but also other resources to broaden their knowledge. These include medical textbooks, self-assessment quizzes, videos and point of care information.

AccessMedicine boasts a collection of:

  • Beyond 85 leading clinical and educational resources
  • At least 50,000 images for educational use and to aid in visual diagnosis
  • More than 1,000 differential diagnoses linked for in-depth information
  • Over 5000 patient education topics in multiple languages to help patients understand their treatment regimen
  • Procedural videos and animations, patient safety modules, musculoskeletal examinations, and much more!

AccessMedicine is available on the Database list under the subject “Medicine”, accessible on the NTU library’s homepage. To learn how to search for databases using the homepage, click here.

From the home page, you can find the links to the various resources in the menu bar. Scroll over to each category to discover more about each resource!

While there are some recommended titles on the Home page, you can find the textbooks under “Readings“. Click the sub-section to get started.

Textbooks in AccessMedicine are sorted by subject categories. You can find these in the list on the left side of the page. Click on the image of the book title to look into its table of contents. databases_accessMed_04

Some books come with an interactive self-assessment component. Do note that chapters do not have a downloadable PDF version.

As with any medical resource site, AccessMedicine also provides a directory of medicinal drugs. The list can be further classified by their generics, trade names as well as drug classes.

Under multimedia, you can find videos on various medical topics that cover both theoretical knowledge as well as procedural processes. Also included are lecture videos on pharmacology as well as self-study modules for self-learning and revision.

Cases, as you can guess, contain case studies. Each case study comes with a set of questions to test knowledge about the subject related to the case. Provided are also a summary of the topic as well as bits of information for quick revision in the area.

Apart from the standard quizzes, the Self-Assessment section also includes online flashcards as well as a game to help you test your knowledge on various medical topics! Also, you may create your own quiz from the resources available on the database, but you require an account to use this feature.

Custom Curriculum is a tool meant for programme directors, instructors and faculty to use. It allows the user to make use of the resources available to create and manage their own curriculum as well as materials to use.

The final section of resources available is the Patient Education Resource, which are PDF files about medical conditions that are free to download.

These files usually contain information to help patients understand their conditions, as well as the diagnosis and treatment procedures and methods. There are also some which contains simple materials to help in managing their conditions, such as an action plan for asthma patients.
