It was the second edition of the ‘Global MBA Challenge’ we could sense the pride and excitement of the organisers when they met us on the night before the competition. The participating schools included the likes of Insead and London Business School and it was great getting to know everyone from all the schools across the globe.

The venue of the competition was HKUST and the campus was absolutely beautiful, with breath-taking views of clear water bay and surrounding islands.

Format: There were 3 rounds in the competition. Teams were split into 3 groups of 4 teams each. They would compete amongst themselves but the teams in each group will be rotated after each round, thereby allowing all teams to compete against all others. Each round had separate weights attached to them and the top 3 teams would proceed to the finals where they would have to present the same case as the 3rd round.

If the judges had questions, they were allowed to interrupt us while we were presenting and it was an interesting format and this tests participants if they can think on their feet.

We won the 3rd and final round, but in the overall total that added up all the rounds we ended up finishing second, behind Tsinghua University. However, it was a wonderful experience and it was a great learning experience for all of us.

Though the competition was intense, it was a lot of fun and learning. Though the 4 of us had not worked together previously, we came together and worked perfectly as a team. I have always maintained that teamwork is the important aspect of a case competition. If teamwork is perfect, everything else will fall in place automatically and that is exactly what happened here.

Overall, it was a great learning experience and it was great to explore the campus amidst all the hustle bustle of the competition. We would love to come back here again.
