I am an Associate Professor of Sociology at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. I earned my PhD in Sociology from Arizona State University and completed my post-doctoral fellowship at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. Prior to pursuing sociology at the graduate level, I obtained a B.Eng (First Class) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Madras.

My primary research focuses on social and demographic transformations in Asia, examining demographic responses to social, political, and economic changes. My particular geographical interests lie in South and Southeast Asia, where I examine social and demographic aspects related to marriage and divorce, families and households, and ageing. My work has been featured in prominent population and demographic journals, including Population and Development Review, Demographic Research, Population, and Social Science & Medicine.

I am actively engaged in teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students. My instructional areas encompass courses related to population, social policy, quantitative research designs and methods, and gerontology. I am humbled to have been recognised with the Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award, a university-wide award in recognition of inspirational teaching and the impact teachers have on their students.

My involvement in the academic community extends beyond my research and teaching roles. I served as the Vice President of the Asian Population Association and am currently a Council Member. I was the sole Associate Editor for the journal Asian Population Studies for nearly a decade. Over the years, I have contributed as an active reviewer for more than 55 journals, publishers, and grant agencies.
