In collaboration with Beyond Social Services, over 40 students from the NTU Humanities and Social Sciences Club held an educational camp, entitled “iCamp” for 30 beneficiaries on 11 and 12 March 2017.

The objective of iCamp was to improve the participants’ self-esteem and challenge their interpretation of intelligence. It revolved around the Multiple Intelligence Theory by Dr Howard Gardner, a Harvard psychologist and Professor of Education. His theory suggests that traditional ways of testing for intelligence (e.g. crystalised intelligence measured by the Stanford-Binet tests) may be biased towards certain individual types.

Participants were guided through eight different workshops. The workshops allowed them to explore the different types of intelligences in the theory, and discover which one they excel in or are potentially interested to pursue and fortify. The workshops were conducted through activities such as dance, sports and applied theatre.

“Thank you NTU volunteers for your hard work, and we are sorry because we never always listen to you. We enjoyed all the activities that you have planned for us.” Tyra, a participant beneficiary of Beyond Social Services
