Textile Resistance (2011)

Barbro Scholz, Germany

Description

Textilt motstånd – textile resistance is collaboration between Smart Textiles Design Lab and Syntjuntan. The aim was to design different suggestions of raw textile materials that can be used as textile instruments that Syntjuntan is using for their music performances.

The start was a workshop to explore and create variable textile resistors, which will later on control the sound effects in the textile music instruments. The resistance properties in the textile materials, creates a changeable sound, something that is transformed also by pressing, wrapping, hugging and whatever the material and shape allows.

A collection of structures and textile raw materials was developed to investigate how the action of moving or getting dressed could sound. Also, how those garments and textile materials may function in a social context.
