Revitalising Senior Fitness: Reimagining outdoor fitness corners

Abstract or Summary of Project

In the face of an aging population, Singapore promotes an active lifestyle among elderly by increasing outdoor senior fitness corners around different neighbourhoods. However, quantity does not necessarily equate to quality. Examining the needs and perceptions of seniors aged 65 and above, this project proposes three key elements to improve current fitness corners – Equipment, Environment and Experience. The reconfigured space includes ideal fitness equipment, an exercise sequence, facilities to promote social interaction and tools to address linguistic problems. Considering Singapore’s climatic conditions, the space aims to be a place that promotes exercise through bonding, allowing for rest and leisure.
