Higher

The quest to find and figure out our real selves becomes an important aspect of our lives as we start to get older. What defines us? What makes us truly happy? With the external influences we have faced throughout our youth, it is difficult to decipher the lost and hidden parts of ourselves without first being self-aware. With that said, how do we express the intangible and complex concepts of the self and its awareness such that it can be more approachable and intriguing? Higher is a project that aims to visualize this intangible subject by conveying its ideologies through metaphorical spaces and narrative, such that the topic can be introduced in an alternative way.

The Actualising Self

“He who stops being better, stops being good.” – Oliver Cromwell We change and grow with time and experiences. Our self-identity is fluid; there will always be room for more self-insight. Self-awareness and self-regulation should coexist to usher in growth. To form the simple habit of living an examined life, to make conscious efforts to grow and change positively, to regulate and better ourselves. This project is a personal documentation of learning to lead a more examined life. It hopes to inspire viewers to do the same for their own lives.

Toilet Break

Toilet Break involves discovering the act of introspection and its value in relation to the pursuit of happiness in the 21st century. Introspection means simply an examination of one’s own thoughts and feelings. It is the act of looking within oneself. This project utilises the creative use of space to design an immersive spatial installation that attempts to materialise the transcendental experience of introspection. Through this immersive space, the project hopes to allow viewers to relate back to their thoughts and understand importance of introspection in balancing the complexities of life.
