Remembering the Singapore Tech Expo

A speculative graphic language project uncovering the root influences of Y2K aesthetics, explaining how these influences shape the trends of visual language and its impact on society at large. Presented through counterfactual artifacts of a 2000s Singapore Tech Expo, this project focuses on exploring what Singapore’s tech identity & its products could have been like and how it could have influenced visual culture of the 2000s.

Stories Under The Sun

Stories Under The Sun is a project meant to invoke nostalgia by having us revisit childhood memories and to encourage personal storytelling. With a series of theme-curated boxes, it hopes to bring us back in time through interaction with the old school items inside the boxes.

Be reminded of the innocent, carefree days and add on to the collection of personal stories from our fellow Singaporeans. Start a conversation with friends or share them with others through the project’s platforms. Stories Under The Sun wishes to revive memories through stories and to retell Singapore’s history in the eyes of our younger self.

Share precious memories and together, let us reminisce and create a collective of locally flavoured stories.

In Search of Memory

In Search of Memory explores how a visual approach on Life Review Therapy can be used to increase life satisfaction for young adults. Through reconstructing life stories and re-evaluating the fond memories, it serves to provide a therapeutic reflection on thoughts, patterns, and behaviors.

Kampung Dreamworld

Our modern struggle with accelerated time and rapid progress prompted a global wave of nostalgia. As a response to the fear and uncertainty of the future, nostalgia has been adopted as an individual instrument of survival and a countercultural practice. Contemporary nostalgia serves as a defense mechanism against time, providing us with comfort and allowing us to critically reflect about the present and future. However, our nostalgic tendency to romanticise the past is problematic as it neglects historical facts and realities.

Conceived as a theme park, Kampung Dreamworld questions contemporary nostalgia in the context of Singapore and re-examines its purpose in today’s constantly shifting world. By bringing to light forgotten histories in a satirical manner, Kampung Dreamworld serves as a form of escapist entertainment with a very real-world sting at its core.
