LW24 (2015)

PerMagnus Lindborg

Description

“LW24” is a sculptural auditory display. It plays “Locust Wrath #2.2”, a sonification of the future climate in South-East Asia. Predicted data representing rainfall, atmospheric pressure, temperature, wind speed, and humidity over 35 years and 6.6 million km2 are time-compressed into 55 minutes, audified using a real-time interactive system, rendered, and spatialised over 21 channels. Four movements are interspersed by a child’s narration of how she imagines growing up in a world of climate change. This ‘radio play’ effect brings a human perspective onto the large temporal climactic developments being sonified, which are as hard to grasp as they are terrifying.
