Description
The architect does not build buildings. This is an illusion, romanticizing the primacy of architecture. The architect in effect, produces drawings and models – output which he or she has direct control. The architect’s realm is the chaos of the site; it’s the time when there’s still the power to influence the outcome, to instruct, direct, scrutinize, invent. But it’s also a territory that’s messy, frenzied and often problematic. Yet it remains the true terrain of the architect and the conditions spent most time negotiating. These conditions are charged but transitory, meant to be overtaken. They are meant to be powerless.
