We will concentrate on exploring the chemical concept regarding carbohydrates and the role of it in our body. Carbohydrates are the most abundant biomoleclues/ organic molecule in nature. Carbohydrate is usually a molecule make up of oxygen, carbon and hydrogen.
They are formed during photosynthesis.
n CO2 + n H2O + Energy –>(CH2O)n + n O2
Most carbohydrates are oxidised polyhydroxy alcohols. They have the general formula (CH2O)n where n is the number of carbons.
Carbohydrates are not just an important source of energy production for living cells. They are also structural elements of cells and components of numerous metabolic pathways. A broad range of cellular phenomena depend on carbohydrates. Moreover, they are precursors in the production of other biomolecules.
