Process :

We discussed Ideas for our videos

  • We decided to use cardboard to illustrate the addition polymerization mechanism for polyethylene. This is done by using cardboards to show a -H-C-H bond and another for a free radical.
  • We created another scene through illustration(drawing), as we believe that through this way the addition polymerisation mechanism can be  better understood
  • Discussion regarding the sound for the background music when we explain about each process
    • Background Music
      • Advantage: more professional and interesting
      • Disadvantage: harder to understand
    • Vocal explanation
      • Advantage: easier understanding for viewer
      • Disadvantage: hard to record, need  quiet place and more professional equipment to result in good quality of voice recorded. If recorded using phone will result in lower quality for our video
    • Final Outcome we chose to have Background Music
      • Solution: we slowed down the pace of the video so that people can take more time to understand
  • Props preparation- Use of cardboard, colour paper, markers, scissors

  • Revision of Unit assigned
    1. Team members revised Unit 7 (about polymers) one more time.
    2. Discussed among the team some doubts about Unit 7 that we are clear about
  • Discussion of Topic
    1. Start the discussion by a short recap of what we are going to discuss about the topic.
      1. Chemical concept
      2. Usefulness
      3. Implication
      4. Effect to Singapore
      5. Effect to our life
      6. Rough idea of what we are going to do
    2. There are two ideas suggested for the topic
      1. Plastic waste
      2. Polyethylene
    3. Voting session : Polyethylene with more votes
    4. Everyone agreed on using “Polyethylene” as our topics.
    5. Short discussion about what we are going to discuss about Polyethylene
      • Talk about low density and high density Polyethylene
      • Addition polymerisation on the formation of Polyethylene
      • Changing of substituents effects on ethene modifies the chemical behavior greatly, example : fluorinating to give teflon monomers(which can be used as a coating on cooking pans due to inertness and its low stick properties attributed by fluorines)
    6.  We started splitting up the work for the start up of the blog.
