How does Acid Rain affect our society?
Affecting the Biodiversity in Singapore
Singapore has numerous Parks, Nature Reserves and Reservoir parks spread around it’s land for residents to enjoy during their free-time.
The presence of acid rain negatively affects the vegetations and wildlife residing in such places, as they may be sensitive to the pH levels. These changes may result in certain species to die, sparking a detrimental change in the once balanced food chain, causing native species to be removed from such reserves.
This may result in residents being unable to enjoy the wonderful diversity of wildlife species in such reserves.
Corrosion of Buildings
As the government would be actively maintaining buildings, the effect of corrosion would be less pronounced, and that the effects of corrosion of buildings can only be seen over a long period of time. Hence, the effects would not impact on residents the most.
On the other hand, the process leading to the formation of acid rain and hence the corrosion, the air pollution through the by production of certain manufacturing processes tends to be more detrimental to public health.
