Carbon monoxide is given by the chemical formula of CO.  It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is slightly less dense than air. Carbon monoxide is the product of incomplete combustion due to the lack of oxygen during the combustion process for complete oxidation to product carbon dioxide.

Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs after enough inhalation of the gas. The affinity between hemoglobin and carbon monoxide is approximately 230 times higher than between hemoglobin and oxygen. The binding of carbon monoxide at one of these sites enhances the oxygen affinity of the remaining three sites, which causes the hemoglobin molecule to retain oxygen that would otherwise be delivered to the tissue.
