This unit studies how the chemical industry applies key principles of physical chemistry in order to turn research ideas into profitable products without harming the environment.

Why is it Important?

Topic

We will be working on the topic of fossil fuels, mainly focusing on crude oil. The reasons why we chose fossil fuels are due to the issues of depleting resources and pollution problems. Crude oil is important to our oil refinery industry in Singapore hence, we are focusing on crude oil.

For our chemical concept, we will be looking at the formation of crude oil, fractional distillation of crude oil and cracking process. In addition, the uses, benefits and costs of fractional distillation will be covered.

Lastly, we will touch on the topic of incineration in Singapore and the issue of conservation.
