The Community Telehealth Service (CTS) is an innovative public health service project organized by students of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Programme, supported by Nanyang Technological University Graduate College Community Engagement Project. CTS features remote health technologies, vendor-neutrality, secure data management, and safe distancing. The success of this ground-up initiative together with the community, governmental bodies, and corporate sponsors, can be a prime example of a people-public-private partnership.
COVID-19 has deferred regular health screening and monitoring for many by at least 6 months , this is expected to have a prolonged effect on our healthcare system. While telemedicine is poised to be the new norm, not all will benefit with at least 1 in 10 being digitally outcast and underprivileged in Singapore. As a ground-up initiative, we firmly believe that CTS offers unique contribution for our country which is complementary to the existing public or private telehealth services. It also represents our hope for the future to be able to shape the new normal together as the youths of today and the future of tomorrow.
CTS aims to accelerate the development and deployment of telemedicine delivery to all members of the community equitably. We serve as a bridge to connect residents-in-need with a convenient telehealth system and an active follow-up using both fixed booths and a health ambassador programme.
The Community Telehealth Service project has received support from the Young ChangeMakers grant by National Youth Council, a programme for youth who want to contribute to the community, and oscar@sg by Temasek Trust, a fund that supports ground-up initiatives responding to community needs in Singapore arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
