Domestic Violet was loosely inspired by my own dating experiences… I wanted to express the frustrations of phone/tech etiquette while dating. When I was writing the script, I had lots of ideas I wanted in the film, but the end result turned out slightly different from my script – either some parts were too long to be filmed or I didn’t have the time to execute it within the given time frame, so they were omitted in the end. It was a fun and insightful process to be writing and shooting something and seeing it all come together though!
