Small roads of Jalan Besar
by Abdul Zameer Husref
Today we explored,
The dusty roads of the neighbourhood.
Pausing only to capture,
Moments we manufactured
The small roads and back alleys,
Whisper to us. They tell us their tales,
Hoping we recognise,
The vapidity of our trail.
We find an abandoned staircase.
That leads nowhere,
A slow descend to
Realisation.
The empty streets
That were once filled ,
Now only fill our open minds.
The temporality of the present,
Floats in the wake of our presence.
The beauty of the buildings,
Intricate winding of alleys,
Will also be gone someday.
And all that will remain,
is the dust of impermanence.
