Project Description – The True Hapiness

inspiration

The wedding dress is heavily inspired by the biological structure of the jellyfish. The bottom half of the dress comprises of a base neoprene material which is topped by a layer of organza. Organza was chosen due to its translucent-type material which resembles the tentacles of the jellyfish which are also translucent. By far the most distinct trait of the dress is the strips of LED which are hidden under the organza.

This  wedding dress has a pulse sensor that can be placed behind the bride’s ear to sense the heart beat of the bride. It will light up the dress when the heart beat reaches above a specific rate and it will change color when the heart beat increase. This dress is inspired by the characteristic of the jellyfish as they tend to light up themselves to attract their prey which gives the idea of how a bride will want to attract everyone’s attention by expressing her emotion through the dress.

techThe lights are triggered by a pulse sensor which will be attached on the ear where the wires will be better concealed. Based on the wearer’s emotions, the pulse sensor will be programmed to prompt the LED to light up, essentially depicting the excitement of the bride. When the bride’s heart rate is within the range of 90 to 150, the LED will emit a bright white light in a slow, elegant, blinking-like pattern. Once the heart rate exceed 150, the light will change to a mixture of green, blue, yellow and white to radiate the moment of ecstasy she is facing. Again, this takes after the behaviors of the jellyfish which have primitive senses that charge up their tentacles when a prey is nearby, producing a luminous light on its tentacles. Although the functionality of the dress is to primarily attract attention to the bride rather than for hunting purposes, it works similar to the jellyfish in a sense that the LED and tentacles can be reactively triggered on and off.
