Dress not stress. Two more days to the exhibition at Singapore Art Science Museum. I worked with mini servos and large servo with 360 degree rotation.
Apparently I ran into some technical issues with the servos. After numerous consultations, I was disappointed to learn that the strength of the servos were too weak to pull the strings. As the strength of the servo is not greater than the tension of the string, it was not able to wind the strings. If done forcefully, it would result in an inaccurate number of turns, which makes it almost impossible to predict how many turns of the servo is needed to wind the strings completely. Sadly, I have to give up on the idea of using a servo to control the movement of my skirt and the two lotus structures on my shoulders. To make up for the loss in electronics, I added a LED strip. The LED strip has been coded exactly the same as my previous project DA9005 which can be found in my site. I have reused the strip in a different context. In this context, the constant blinking of white light represents peace. When a hand is gestured across the infra-red sensor, the strip will change from white colour to a myriad of colours to represent a more aggravated state of emotions Mother Nature experiences. The colours of the LED strip is a metaphoric way to describe the emotions of Mother Nature.
The power of reusing materials was a great help to me in this course.
I have tried using leather provided by Galina (the kindest teacher ever ever ever) to make the belt, however I thought the colour does not match the dress. Therefore I stick with the grey felt.
The following is the assembling stages of the dress.
