We must look at other things than textiles; at trees, at clouds, at water and so on.
It was suggested that Jack Lenor Larson was the one, who coined the term “Surface Design” during his keynote speech at the first Surface Design Association Conference in 1976. He, however, preferred the term, fabric embellishment, “to represent manipulations of textiles that go beyond woven constructions”. Today, it is an emerging discipline that combines the subjects, which includes graphics, product design, fashion, textiles and fine art.
