Latex is a milk fluid found in plants which exudes when a plant is cut and coagulates on exposure to the air. It can be used to create masks and moulds. Liquid latex requires air drying and it makes very economical strong and durable stripoff moulds for casting of plasters and waxes. They can be painted on the original layer of latex to build the thickness.
MATERIALS:
Mould
Liquid Latex
Colours
Release agent
weighing scale
METHOD:
1. Weigh 100g of liquid latex and add a drop of hardener
2. Mix well and allow mixture to set
3. Spray release agent onto mould surface
4. Apply mixture onto moulding surface
5. Allow to dry and peel off latex
RESIN ENCAPSULATION
Resin casting is a method of plastic casting where a mould is filled with liquid synthetic resin which will harden. During the setting process, the liquid monomer polymerises into the polymer and hardens to become a solid
MATERIALS:
Mould
Small Plastic Container
Liquid Resin
Release Agent
Hardener
Weighing scale
METHOD:
1. Weigh 100g of liquid resin and add 2-4g of hardener
2. Stir mixture well and allow it to set
3. Spray releasing agent onto the mould before pouring the liquid resin
4. Add objects into the mould to encapsulate them
5. Allow mixture to set and dry
6. Remove resin piece
