What is this technique?
It involves the melting of polymer in the organza and remoulding it when it is cool into the desire shape and pattern.
Step 1: Find objects to attach to the 100% polyester organza to form the pattern that you want to achieve
Step 2: Use a rubber than to secure the objects to the organza
Step 3: To create patterns the resemble origami, use baking paper or yupo paper to achieve that. Fold the 2 sheets of paper into the desired pattern, sandwich the organza in between the paper and fold the paper into the pattern. Secure with rubber band
Step 4: Wrap the exterior of the pieces with aluminum foil
Step5: Boil them in water for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Boil it outdoors as the fumes are toxic.
Step 6: Remove the aluminum foil and rubber bands. Do not stretch out the organza until it is fully dried.
Reflections:
I really love this method as it is unusual to see fabrics being able to hold a certain shape on their own. Through this simple method i am able to create so many shapes with the organza. It allowed me to be very creative with the objects i use to create the shape like tiny rings and corks.
