Thermochromic Printing

What is this technique?

Thermochromic inks or dyes are temperature sensitive compounds, developed in the 1970s, that temporarily change color with exposure to heat.

Step 1: Mix the Beta base with the thermochromic powder

If you want a base colour mix acrylic paint with the base

Step 2: Print the design using a silk screen

Step 3: After drying, apply heat and watch the thermochromic pigments disappear

Reflections:

I was surprised by this method as I thought the pigments came in the form of paint and we just painted them. It is really cool how we can change the base colour by simply adding acrylic paint and it would be reveal when it comes into contact with heat.
