Many local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) believe that innovation has a positive effect on productivity, but they primarily equate innovation with increased output efficiency and technological innovation. SMEs tend to overlook the crucial role of “soft perspective of innovations” such as marketing innovation, operational innovation, business model and management innovation, and fostering an innovative organisational culture, to enhance productivity.
