People who have visual impairments face difficulty in flagging down buses.
Current experiences
- People with visual impairments are advised to wait at the front of bus stops
- If there are other passengers around, they can ask them about the approaching buses.
- If there are no other passengers around, people with visual impairments will flag if they hear a bus coming. And after the bus stops, they will ask the driver what bus it is
Other measures
- Guide dogs
- Braille bus guide
- Bus arrival time apps
- Assistance from bus captains
- Public transportation training for visually impaired individuals
Main concern to address: Difficulty in flagging down buses when there is no one/less commuters around
- Some buses would travel too fast and the individual is unable to flag down the bus in time
- Solution: Wearable token with
- A lanyard attachment to carry it around
- A braille keypad for the visually impaired to key in the bus stop numbers
- Vibration to signal to the user when their bus is reaching their stop
