It costs $8 million annually to run Kidney Dialysis Foundation (KDF), Singapore’s second-largest non-profit dialysis provider. However, donations are less than ideal due to the uncertain global economic climate.

Into its fourth year, the KDF Millennium Ride, one of KDF’s fund-raising events, ended on 6 March 2017 and raised a total of $320,211. The fund-raising ride saw 67 cyclists from all walks of life, completed a gruelling 1,000 kilometre route from Perak to Singapore in four days.

The number of Singaporeans with kidney failure is increasing, and the country has the world’s highest rate of kidney failure caused by diabetes. Currently, National Kidney Foundation, Singapore’s largest provider of kidney dialysis, faces a space shortage for new patients.
