According to a survey conducted by insurance firm Cigna’s latest health and well-being survey of 13 economies, Singaporeans ranked tenth with an index score of 59.4 when it comes to perceptions of general health and well-being.

For Singaporeans, the greatest challenge was family and finances. Nine in ten surveyed claimed that they are not content with their current financial situation, while seven in ten said that they have not spent enough time with their families. Less than a quarter said that they were able to take care of their parents’ health and well-being, as well as their financial needs.

Ms Lena Tsia, chief executive of Cigna Singapore, said that she was not surprised with the scores as different countries and cultures have different expectations and paces in the economic development.

Tan Ern Ser, National University of Singapore sociologist, added that Singapore is a mature economy with an ageing population, high expectations and a relatively high cost of living. Singapore also has a large middle class who is struggling to stay employable to remain within the middle class.
