The Community Thread

From 4 March 2019 to 17 March 2019

Singapore, Singapore

As part of Singapore Design Week 2019, The Community Thread is a free and inclusive self-guided tour experience that celebrates the heritage of Bras Basah and Bugis (BBB)!

Follow a story about BBB in the 1930s at five sites along Queen Street and Waterloo Street. Bring your own phone to watch incredible Augmented Reality (AR) activations that add a whole new dimension to the artwork. Then proceed to National Design Centre (NDC), Level 5, between 9.00 am – 9.00 pm for some fun and free hands-on design experiences.

This self-guided experience follows a schoolgirl’s journey through the busy streets of 1930s Bras Basah and Bugis. Discover each site – featuring street art by theregularjo – to find out what happens next. Use your phone to uncover vivid AR activations by MeshMinds. Then add your own chapter to the story with participatory design fun courtesy of Participate in Design. Access the work in your own way and in your own time.

The Community Thread is a free and accessible experience for people of all ages and abilities. Braille translation is provided at each artwork location. All sites are wheelchair/walker accessible.

Be among the first to document all five sites on social media (using the hashtag #communitythreadsingapore) to pick up your prize at the NDC!

  • When: 4-17 March 2019
  • Venue: National Design Centre, Level 5 (111 Middle Rd, Singapore 188969), Waterloo Street and Queen Street
