Construction / Destruction

“The connection between my process and artwork is a two-directional bond. Firstly I must understand the essence I would like to inject to the work, then I let the process carries me forward without fixation on the final outcome so to open up possibilities, to the point I get to something substantial. Then, I will reflect back on the essence and the cycle continues until I am happy with the artwork.”

~ Eng Seng Lau

As the world embarks on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where possibilities with technology seem to be limited to only our imagination, its social impact on improving the quality of life for all people is just not enough without the considerations of sustainable development and responsible innovation. Our interactions with the cities we inhabit are now mediated by the bodies of automobiles, tall-standing concrete buildings with digital devices getting our attention. A certain sense of tactile, physical familiarity of nature with our surroundings has since been lost in the process. What if nature had a voice? If then, what would they say to us as we step into the fourth major industrial era? The installation uses both audio and video technology to react to the activity from the audience.
