KANDINSKY: Social Discussion Visualization Meets Abstract Art

By Christina Lui | Student category

“Digitalisation does make ease of a lot of traditional art skills, which are trained from diligence and patience. However, because of the ease of time-consuming art processes, we re-think the definition of art today and unleash a brand new area of creativity.”

~ Christina Lui

KANDINSKY is a novel end-to-end visualisation system for social media analysis. It supports multi-faceted visualisation of social discussions associated with an anchor post. In KANDINSKY, the social discussion landscape is visualised using a collection of colourful circles and concentric circles, which are inspired from the famous abstract arts called “Colour Study. Squares with Concentric Circles” and “Several Circles” by Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944). Intuitively, a circle and a concentric circle represent a social comment and a collection of comments in a discussion thread, respectively.
